One thing me and my hubby rarely get to do, is spend some alone time together, heck, we never even had a honeymoon!
When and if the opportunity arises we try to take some alone time whenever we can, even if it’s an hour or two when one of our family/friends are visiting us. I did get lucky this year though. For the first time in about 5 years, we got to spend a night away! Not only a night, but an entire weekend away, together, KID FREE!!
The weekend after Valentines day we headed up north, dropped the girls off at my parents house (who live like 45 min away from Niagara) and off we enter went for a lovely couples weekend away in Niagara Falls, Ontario Canada.
We not only had a weekend away, but were able to stay at a super sweet place called The Sterling Inn & Spa. At first impression, you’re a little scared to what you’re going to arrive to. Going through some not so nice side streets, but once you arrive, the hotel is beautiful! Don’t be deceived by the outside looks.
The Sterling Inn & Spa used to be the old Borden Dairy, thankfully they’ve kept some of the architecture true to what it used to be, the main entrance is even the shape of an old milk bottle. Our check in was quick and easy and the staff was super friendly. There’s only 2 floors to this place, which is great, I hate staying in higher rooms!
The original wood beams from the old dairy were in the ceiling as well (only found on the 2nd floor rooms). When we first walked in we opened the door to the amazing, huge bathroom! You have your normal toilet (with a phone), and an amazing glass-top sink! We were also greeted with a steam shower with a rainfall shower-head, and a 2 person jacuzzi. Everything was so clean and the room smelled amazing! There was also a window opening by the jacuzzi which you could open to view the rest of the room.
The rooms are also equiped with a sink, small fridge for you to keep any of your own things in, as well as a coffee maker, two flute glasses, and ice bucket and normal condiments such as coffee, tea, sugar etc. They also provide two bottles of water at $4 a piece. Which I had to get, only because I fell in love with the bottle. It was made of glass and water imported from Norway (yes I’m a geek leave me alone lol).
A desk in the room, king size bed, which had our breakfast menu and two chocolate chip cookies waiting for us. There’s also a flat screen TV, and on the 2nd floor the rooms also have gas fireplaces in the rooms as opposed to the 1st floor where they’re electric.
The view of the room isn’t spectacular at all, we had a view of the Greg Frewin Theatre (which I’ll be writing about in another post). No worries though, it was a couples weekend away, It wasn’t like the blinds to the room were open very much.
I absolutely fell in love with this room! One of the best rooms I’ve ever stayed in by far. Another great thing about the hotel is the breakfast menu. You basically get breakfast in bed included in your stay. They provide you with a door hanger menu each morning, with a list of what’s available and what your choices are. For instance the first day we stayed, we had a choice of coffee or tea, apple juice or orange juice as well as yogurt and granola, chef’s choice egg (which ended up being quiche), ham, cheese, croissants an apple and an orange. You also get to choose which time each morning you’d like your breakfast delivered and they’re always on time, so be ready! Our breakfast the 2nd morning was the same except we had hard boiled eggs instead of the quiche, which was a bit disappointing.
The Sterling Inn & Spa also has a great fine dining restaurant, and spa located within it’s facilities. They’re both located just below the main floor for easy access to guests. We had the retreat package. “The Retreat” can be booked as a one or two-night package. The package includes accommodation, Breakfast in Bed, dinner for two, and a couples treatment in our full service spa ONE, Spadirect Wellness Center and Spa. There’s also a few other packages to choose from as well. All of them are just amazing!
The Sterling Inn & Spa is walking distance from the main strip where all the attractions are (Clifton Hill). Although we ended up staying in the middle of a snowstorm, we braved the weather and made a visit to the WWE store (of course!), the falls themselves which are beautiful in the winter, but be for warned, it’s SUPER cold! We decided not to walk all the way down to the horseshoe falls because with how cold it was, the mist would have been unbearable. Plus being from the area originally, I’ve seen them a million times. We also were able to check out the midway and play some games (think chuck e cheese), we did glow in the dark mini putt, and we visited the wax museum, the casino (where I lost $50 bucks), had lunch at the Hard Rock Cafe, and brought back some yummy chocolate covered strawberries back to the room from the Hersey store.
We had a great couples weekend away. So great, that we have decided this is something we need to do once a year, at least. We’ll definitely be back to The Sterling Inn & Spa together again. Although they do allow families/kids, I’d have to discourage it, it’s much more a place for adults and couples for a romantic time away.
I can’t forget the unbelievable dinner we had at AG Cuisine, the relaxing 30 minute couples massage at One Spa Retreat or the amazing magic show we saw at the Greg Frewin Theatre. Be on the lookout for a few more posts from me about our amazing weekend away in Niagara Falls Ontario Canada which will include all of the above.
