Gas mileage these days has put a lot of people off to SUV’s, which myself I prefer big time over minivan’s, yes, I’m a soccer mom (literally) but driving a minivan just doesn’t have an appeal to me, and SUV’s are going to cost me an arm and a leg to simply drive around the city, so the perfect choice seems to be one of the new crossover vehicles.
KIA has the 2011 Sorento which is the perfect midsize crossover that gives you a great look, lots of space, a ton of features, and it’s affordable both price wise and gas wise! The fully loaded 2011 KIA Sorento SX AWD retails for $35,890, which yes, to most of us is a huge number, but think about what you’re getting, and it’s brand new. The 2011 Sorento is also one of KIA’s top models and remember the price above is for something fully loaded with every feature.
Standard in all of the 2011 KIA Sorento SX AWD’s is Bluetooth, USB inputs and the audio controls on the steering wheel as well as a 3.5 liter V-6 engine and six speed automatic transmission. This model also had leather interior, navigation system, power control front seats, heated front seats, high end surround sound audio system, backup camera and a panoramic sunroof. All of the 2011 KIA Sorento’s also come equip with anti-lock breaks, stability & traction control, and hill assist control. You’ll also find front and side impact air bags for the driver and passenger, and the passenger airbag is also features a sensor so it’s automatically shut off unless a certain weight is present in the seat. The side curtain airbags extend to the second row seating but not the third.
Driving around in the 2011 KIA Sorento SX AWD was a bit of a challenge at first, compared to what I normally drive it was huge, or at least felt like it, but a few days behind the wheel I was as comfortable as ever. First driving I felt like the gas pedal was very sensitive but I got used to that as well. I managed to get around 20 MPG in the city on average, highway EPA is 25 MPG. The Sorento was also very quiet!
What I loved about the KIA Sorento wasn’t just how it handled driving, but also the interior and sleek design of the model. Chrome, faux carbon fiber inserts, and a satin finish trim made the 2011 KIA Sorento look like something super classy! Seating was comfortable, and if either myself or hubby were driving, there were presets that stuck driver 1 and 2 into memory so there was no ‘adjusting’ a million times over if either of us chose to drive.
Navigation and Radio (equip with Sirius XM) were super user friendly and very easy to use, I also loved the climate control for driver, passenger and even rear passengers. Besides the glove compartment, there were two cup holders in the center console, a center console bin that had 2 sections to it and was fairly large. You could also find storage in all of the doors as well.
The only people who ever sit in the second row is my girls, and for them, both in booster seats there was ample space with plenty of room left for a third passenger in the middle. The third row was very small and had virtually no leg room, but I like that the option is there in case it is needed. When it’s not, it can be stowed away easily.
Trunk space when the third row is stowed away is amazing! Great space! There’s also hidden storage under the floor but it’s not very large. Second row seats also split fold in case you need the added length.
I found driving the Sorento to be easy and comfortable. Visibility all around was great, even with the small rear window. The backup camera made things easy when backing up, but I would have liked to see backup sensors and maybe blind spot sensors available as well.
If you’re in the market for a new vehicle, want something larger, but not a mini van, the 2011 KIA Sorento is a good bet to be one of your top choices. Lots of space, room for 5 (or 7 with third row) and is classy and sleek with great safety features! The entire family will love it!
