What to do….That’s the thoughts going into my head about my oldest daughter. She’s bored! You see in the spring/fall she’s usually playing soccer on a local league. However she hasn’t played in a while due to her behavior so it was taken away.
Lately though, she’s been asking to do so many things, but her behavior (hormones) have been preventing me to put her into anything. Lately we’ve been thinking of placing her into Tae Kwon Do or Karate, or some type of wrestling or MMA training. A way to learn discipline and get out her aggression in a safe environment. It would totally be something new for her, but I’m not sure she would love it.
When I was growing up, I always wanted to try some form of martial arts, and even now as an adult, I’ve been looking into MMA training just for another form of exercise. I’d really like to see if my daughter can try it out, and get into it. She’s going through ‘changes’ right now at the ripe early age of 9, and is really awkward right now, especially with other kids her own age. Martial arts has a tendency to build confidence, and she could use a bit of that (and the discipline) right now.
Not only can she learn some new things, I think in the long run, with her being a girl, knowing self defense is also a great thing to have under your belt.
Being as she watches a lot of wrestling with my husband and myself, and how he enjoys MMA it could also be a bonding experience. We’ve looked into a few places locally and I’ve tried to get her into some MMA gear and apparel by looking online at places like fightshop.com to get a little more excited about things, but I think only time, and training will tell.
Do your kids do any types of martial arts?
I’d love to hear from those who have kids who enjoy it, especially daughters.
