Toledo’s Wind Changed So Mary Poppins Flew In For A Show!

Childhood memories include some of my favorite shows and movies, and one of those were the Disney classic Mary Poppins that featured Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke. It was and still is one of my favorite movies.

Mary Poppins has recently flown into Toledo Ohio with the winds, to grace us with her presence at The Stranahan Theater and I was lucky enough to take my family to see her live on stage!

I’ll admit, as excited as I was to see Mary Poppins live on stage, I wondered how it would compare to the movie. I mean you have songs stuck in your head, with Julie Andrews singing, how would this compare?

I’ll be honest, Madeline Trumble poppins_t607who plays Mary did an AMAZING job! Her acting, superb and her voice was just beautiful, she sang all those songs you know just perfectly!

What I found interesting was that although Mary Poppins had so many elements from the original movie in the play, they also had many scenes and songs that were not featured in the movie. It didn’t take away from it though, it actually made the show more enjoyable!

You have known songs like Supercalifragilisticxpialidocious, Chim Chim S01-01Cher-ee and of course Step in Time which had an amazing dance number that everyone enjoyed. But you also have songs like Practically Perfect, and scenes like Mrs. Corry’s Place with songs that are new to you, but will stay stuck in your head just as much as the old songs have.

Set design, was unbelievable! They would appear from different area’s of the stage, they would slide in, fade out, and flip around. Designs and props were just amazing, the details and colors were something you wouldn’t forget…Ever!
Mary Poppins is one show you don’t want to miss, for yourself or your kids. If they’ve never been to the theater before, this is the perfect show to take them to, however, I do have one word of warning….The show is LONG… I took my girls who are 7 and 9, and although they loved the show, still talk about it and have told everyone about it, it was really long and we were up pretty late. The show starts at 7:30pm, but by the time we got home, it was almost 11:00 and on a school night, that wasn’t fun in the morning.

If you have younger kids, I’d advise to take them on a weekend or Friday night to see the show.

Mary Poppins will be at The Stranahan Theater in Toledo until March 3rd. Tickets are still available, start at just $28 and can be purchased here.

This is a family friendly magical night you don’t want to miss out on!
