WWE has been involved in films for some time now. You’ve seen many WWE Superstars in starring roles in movies such as 12 Rounds, The Marine, The Toothfairy, The Chaperone and so many more, well, now these WWE Superstars have decided to lend their voices to animation.
With the popularity of the WWE getting involved with Fruity Pebbles (thanks to The Rock and John Cena) it was only a matter of time… The Rock has now thrown Cena back into the stone ages and will be visiting Bedrock!
WWE Studios has teamed with Warner Bros. to co-produce a “Flintstones” animated movie that will be released direct-to-home video platforms in early 2015.
The Flintstones will feature Vince McMahon as Vince McMagma, John Cena as John Cenastone, CM Punk as CM Punkrock all as Fred, Barney and friends attend their very first WWE Live Main Event! Other stars will be featured as well, but so far, The Rock isn’t one of them… Maybe he’ll make an appearance via Live Satalite?
The film will be produced by Warner Bros. Animation and WWE Studios and will be a straight to DVD/Blu-Ray movie. I’d also expect to see WWE heavily promoting the film through their shows, especially WWE Saturday Morning Slam since it’s more of a ‘family friendly’ movie.
When I first heard the news, I was kind of a little…confused… But I think this could be a fun take, especially for younger fans, and even older fans to watch with their kids. Will I own it once it’s out? Probably, I own every other WWE film, including The Chaperone and The Toothfairy, so I might as well include this one too, besides, I’m a fan of The Flintstones, so are the girls, so this will be one added to our collection for fun.
“WWE is family-friendly entertainment, so partnering with Warner Bros. on a Flintstones-WWE project was a natural extension of our ‘Scooby-Doo’ deal,” said Michael Luisi, president, WWE Studios. “This new, animated feature allows us to showcase our brand with young fans and loyal Flintstones enthusiasts alike.”
