It’s been a long, long very cold winter here in Ohio, in fact I will really be surprised if it ever ends! I know it will, but ugh, can it end now already? I need a break, the family needs a break, we need some sun, we need some warmth we need something to do besides trek around in the snow all day long!
Thankfully, a few weeks ago, we did get the chance to get into some 80 degree weather, and get into our bathing suits and swim thanks to a visit at Castaway Bay in Sandusky, Ohio.
Sandusky isn’t a far drive for us at all, in fact I’m surprised we’ve never decided to visit the indoor water park before. The girls were excited, and although hubby had to work, I brought my best friend with me to enjoy the warmth, she’s from Canada so she was going through the same weather we had been, if not worse.
Castaway Bay’s water park is attached to the hotel, where you can also find gift shops, restaurants, an arcade and of course the water park itself, all inside a nice warm building. There’s also a shipwreck when you first walk in along with talking parrots (no their not real).
Once we checked into our room, the first thing the girls wanted to do was go swimming, but I wanted to do a little walk around the hotel since we’ve never stayed there before. The hotel was really nice, clean and the staff were very warm and welcoming. What I loved about our room, was that it also had a mini fridge to use and a microwave, important when traveling with kids!
We walked past the arcade which of course we had to walk into. You can buy credits on a re-loadable card and game away to win prizes. Think of Chuck-E-Cheese. You can win at claw machines, or win tickets or credits on your card to choose prizes over by the desk, perfect for families!
After our little tour around the hotel and into the arcade and gift shops we went back into our room, changed into our bathing suits and away we went to have some swimming fun! Walking into the water park, it was heaven!! It was so nice and warm! 82 degrees in fact! There was so much to do and see! Water slides, a wave pool, a shallow play area for toddlers even a raft ride! My favorite part included, the hot tub which went from indoors to outdoors, and even in the winter, going outside was almost refreshing being in that hot tub with the snow all around you.
The girls favorite part was probably the wave pool, at times it’s calm, just a time to swim around and then the waves start and the fun begins!
No one wanted to leave when it was time, dinner time of course! We were treated to a buffet that included pizza and salad which was perfect! After dinner, it was time to go back get into our suits again and hang our in the water.
After a long day of swimming, a night in the comfortable beds was just what we needed, but come morning, no one wanted to leave, including myself. Will we return to Castaway Bay? That’s a big fat YES! Even in the spring/summer and Fall months, this is a great place to visit, very family friendly and fun to be had by all!
