Monster Trucks, Not My Thing, Or Is It???

This past weekend, my family and I were invited to check out Advanced Auto Parts Monster Jam at the Huntington Center in Toledo. Not really my thing honestly, but I figured why not, it would be fun for the girls. We’ll fun for my oldest daughter who was thrilled, my youngest, not so much, the girly girl didn’t want to show any excitement about heading to a monster truck show.

Truth be told, my daughters and hubby have been to a Monster Jam show before, I have not, and honestly never really had the 20140307_163653urge to go. How fun would it be to watch a bunch of monster trucks crashing, crushing cars, jumping hills. Not my idea of fun, or so I had once thought!

We had the fun opportunity to get right down and dirty with the monster trucks as we were invited to a special pizza party in the pit before the show. Adorned with tables, chairs, pizza, veggies, cookies and refreshments, along with goodies for the kiddos, we were on the floor, with two giant monster trucks (Grave Digger and Dragon’s Breath). My oldest daughter was in heaven! She fell instantly in love with Dragon’s Breath as she’s a big lover of dragons and reptiles. My youngest daughter sat at the table with her coat on. Not thrilled. Until a little later when we found this going on….

PicMonkey CollageYes, that’s her, miss girly girl getting down and dirty in the dirt, having the time of her life! Mingling with the other kids, making friends as they tried to dig to the ice under the dirt (or so they thought ice was under there). Once we all had something to eat, took some photos and played around in the dirt, we got to meet the Monster Jam drivers, and get autographs, it was such a fun time before the show and a great experience!

Time came pretty quickly as we left the pit and were off to find our seats, at this point I had asked my daughters if they had fun down in the pit, and to my surprise BOTH of them said yes, and I’ll be honest, I had quite the time myself! The show was about to start, ear plugs were put in our ears, and the trucks were right beneath us, once they started up, the diesel fumes were a nice touch (yuck) but we could bare with it as we tucked our noses under our shirts for a bit.

Seeing these HUGE monster trucks, crushing cars, flipping over (Grave Digger did this twice) and jumping hills was in fact FUN! I actually surprised myself and had a GREAT time! It’s not something you see everyday, not something you get to experience a lot, even the dirt bike tricks and motorcycles were a hit with us. My family and the others in attendance seemed to have a great time. It was quite the amazing event! Beyond the noise and the fumes, the merchandise was unbelievable, and although I never thought I’d be a Monster Jam fan myself, I almost bought myself a Grave Digger hat! Believe that!

Would I recommend checking out Advanced Auto Parts Monster Jam when it comes to your city? Would I recommend checking it out once it comes back to Toledo? ABSOLUTELY!
