It seems like women’s wrestling has been more of a joke than anything in past years. We go a few brief moments where we have real, talented women wrestlers, and then, we go back to the scantily clad, untalented “Diva’s” that are more there for looks and jokes rather than really wrestling. That is until recently!
With the new crop of wrestlers coming up, the women’s division is no longer a running joke of lingerie matches and bikini shoots. The new women’s division is full of talented athletes who can actually wrestle and STILL look good doing it without all of the sexist gimmicks that follow along.
To go along with the new change of real women wrestlers came the change of the women’s belt and division as a whole. No longer a girly butterfly diva’s belt, (which don’t get me wrong, I LOVE the look of that belt, I WANT ONE!) Wrestlemania 32 would give way to a re-branding of the women and championship belt. No longer are the women called Diva’s, they are now called Superstars just like the rest of the men within WWE. The Diva’s belt is no longer, and WWE Hall of Famer Lita revealed the new WWE Women’s Championship belt!
This new transition shows that women are just as important as the men, and that they too can be featured in a prominent role as they too are world-class athletes, actors, public speakers, philanthropists and role models! They can show young girls that women can be empowering, confident, strong SUPERSTARS!
No one else in the company is happier than Stephanie McMahon check out her article in The Players’ Tribune.
