Lovely Lisa and Friends…

Written by lyricsmama on March 22, 2010 – 10:10 AM -

Things my girls love… Books, crafts, art, animals, anything pink and playing their Nintendo DS. My girls are actually probably pretty spoiled when it comes to their DS games, I can’t even count how many they have, and while we do put some restrictions on how much and when they can play their Nintendo DS, they’re pretty good with it. They have their few favorite games that you can find them play all the time, and they’ve just recently added to that favorites list.

Lovely Lisa and Friends for the Nintendo DS and Dsi has quickly become one of the girls top favorite games. With the ability to play dress-up in a virtual world Lovely Lisa and Friends just doesn’t stop there. You need to learn responsibility as well by doing things such as helping out mom and dad with chores and different tasks.

Lovely Lisa and Friends is the follow up game to the Lovely Lisa game released earlier this year, which until recently I have never heard of. Perhaps Nintendo needs to put more focus and emphasis on showing these great games to consumers rather than focusing just on the Mario and Wii Fit games of the world.

My daughters really enjoy doing the tasks and moving Lovely Lisa and her friends up in the game by unlocking different features, and they do love being girls and doing the fashion bits as well. Another great feature that this game has, is that it lets young girls explore a lot of different career options like being a florist, and nurse rather than just being a fashionista.

The graphics on this game aren’t anything spectacular, in fact it reminds me of some of the older games rather than a newer one, but to my 4 and 6 year old, it’s more about what the game has in store for them rather than the graphics. But, if you do have the Nintendo Dsi you’re able to use the camera as well and create costume outfits with your own style!

Guitar Hero

Written by lyricsmama on July 2, 2009 – 6:05 PM -

I guess I should admit, we’re a family of gamers! Not hardcore gamers or anything but we do love our Nintendo both the DS we have and our Wii. They both get used on a daily basis, and the Nintendo DS’s that we have are a big help when we’re traveling.

One game we all love is Guitar Hero. Although it’s a little much for the girls, me and hubby really enjoy playing. The girls try their hardest and do tend to get frustrated at times but they still have a load of fun. When I heard about the Guitar Hero games available for the Nintendo DS systems I was pretty excited to try them out.

We received the Guitar Hero on Tour – Modern Hits and the Guitar Hero on Tour – Decades games for the Nintendo DS. When they arrived the girls were so excited and anxious to try them out, but we had to pack up and head to Canada, so they had to wait just a little while so I could inspect them first.

The first person to try out the games happened to be my brother when we got to my parents house. I don’t know who was more excited to try them, him or the girls. He’s got an X-Box 360 and constantly is playing Guitar Hero, so he was the perfect person to try them out with me.

First thing we noticed was the music; I don’t listen to a lot of Rock but knew some of the songs which always make Guitar Hero easier for me, each game includes 28 songs and the best part is for parents that worry about ‘kid-friendly’ music, the songs are all radio-edit versions so no need to worry.

I was a bit skeptical about how easy this game was going to be on the Nintendo DS, I mean I didn’t have a guitar in my hands to play but the worry was over after I played the first game.
The color coded buttons you’d find on the guitar are easily attached to the DS and also comes with a strap to keep your hand in place, if you’re used to Guitar Hero already it was a smooth ride to play the game out. I also loved the guitar pick stylus that came along with the games.

Just like the other games on other consoles you can choose your band name, guitarist/player, outfit and guitar. As you play the game you earn cash so that you can purchase new clothing and more guitars along the way.

The other fun part to this game is the multiplayer mode. If you have 2 Nintendo DS consoles and 2 games you can play head to head with a friend, as well as stream your songs from console to console so you can share your music library via the wireless function in the Nintendo DS system.

Some key features include:

Rock out to today’s hottest tracks – Shred along to 28 master tracks, all modern rock hits from some of the hottest bands including Coldplay, Fall Out Boy, Tenacious D, Weezer, The Strokes and more. Players will tour through five all-new venues that are as extreme as the tunes played in them.

Choose your path to stardom – For the first time ever, players can choose how they take their band from the underground music scene to worldwide rock stardom with the exciting non-linear gameplay progression in Guitar Hero On Tour: Modern Hits.

Do it for the fans – Guitar Hero On Tour: Modern Hits delivers an all-new gameplay experience with Fan Requests. By completing Fan Requests players build their fan base and open up new challenges to rock-out like never before including jamming to an entire song in Hyperspeed, battling it out in a Guitar Duel with active Bomb Notes or whammying every single hold note in a song.

Rock out anytime, anywhere – Fans can take the Guitar Hero experience wherever they go with Guitar Hero On Tour: Modern Hits. The Guitar Hero™ Guitar Grip™ mimics a guitar fret board and fits seamlessly in people’s hands to deliver the same core gameplay that defines Guitar Hero.

The party never stops – Song streaming features allow players of Guitar Hero On Tour: Modern Hits and its predecessors, Guitar Hero: On Tour and Guitar Hero On Tour: Decades, to share songs via local wireless connectivity. Players can rock out together in multiplayer modes, jamming to tracks from all three versions of the game.

Guitar Hero on the DS was a lot of fun and really surprised me, my girls are still finding it a bit difficult but they’re young, we adults are having a BLAST playing, and it was great for the trip back home from Canada to keep myself entertained.

Guitar Hero retails for $49.99 and is rated E 10+ you can visit for more information.

World Championship Games

Written by lyricsmama on March 18, 2009 – 10:35 AM -

Nintendo is almost a lifeline in this house. Ok, well maybe not, but it’s part of our daily routine in some ways, be it me using my Wii Fit, Rodney playing some games on the Wii, or the girls getting to take time out to play their beloved Nintendo DS. So we’re always on the up and up about new games that are coming for any of our systems.

The Game Factory right now is promoting the newest game for the Nintendo DS called World Championship Games – A Track & Field Event. This is a game that features 13 different track & field events which you can play alone, or use as a multiplayer game via WiFi.

The fun thing about this game, isn’t that it’s so ‘realistic’ but that you can customize your own athletes that you wish to use within the game and with the option of using Nintendo WFC to play 2 – 4 players, it makes running, throwing, jumping, shooting and all the other great track & field games even more fun to play.

There are 13 different events featured in World Championship Games, with career, tournament and multiplayer mode all played in well known international stadiums. As you get better and better at the game, you unlock extra events, win medals and compete in the ultimate test of human strength and endeavors, the Decathlon, where you can prove that you ARE the best!

Check out the new World Championship Games – A Track & Field Event for the Nintendo DS by visiting Game Factory at, or purchase yours today for $29.99 at

Big Bang Mini

Written by lyricsmama on January 16, 2009 – 9:29 PM -

Both of my girls have a Nintendo DS. At first, it was a big issue in this house, especially with Aria, all she wanted to do was play Nintendo constantly, we found we had to set time limits and boundaries right away with her. Who would have figured an almost 3 year old would love the Nintendo DS so much, and be so good at it. She plays it more than her 5 year old sister does. With a time limit and schedule on when she can and cannot play it though, we’ve set our limits and she knows them. Her Nintendo DS is by far one of her favorite things still.

With her birthday coming up, one of the worst things we could think of getting her is another Nintendo DS game (since she has 5 of them already), but we still do it. I look, I watch for the newer games coming out that both the girls would enjoy, and I’m always finding Nintendo is coming out with something new that they would both love.

The newest game that will be in stores on January 20th is the Big Bang Mini game. The game looks like a lot of fun, I think more for Lyric rather than Aria.

The SouthPeak Games Website describes the game as:

A fast-paced shoot ’em up puts a new spin on classic arcade style game-play allowing you to blast down hordes of imaginative enemies with explosive fireworks launched at the flick of your wrist. Maneuver your ship through the enemy fire and falling debris as you collect stars from vanquished foes to advance towards big boss battles. A number of special powers will be made available as you move from one exotic locale to the next where one wrong move or one missed shot could be your last.

Main game mode offers up 9 fantastic worlds with 9 levels each ending with intense boss battles and bonus challenges

Post your top scores on the worldwide leader-board using Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection

5 game modes including Arcade, Challenge, Relax, Mission and Versus play

Exceptional art, sound, and game-play design keeps the game fresh as you advance.

This sounds really fun, I can’t wait to check it out and see how it actually plays, and to see which one of the girls enjoy it more, because they constantly surprise me with that. You can check out the game and find more information by visiting SouthPeak Games.
