A Visitor From The Past #TotalMom

Written by lyricsmama on September 13, 2011 – 10:00 AM -

So, it’s now the end of the Total Gym Total Mom Challenge, and I’m sad to say that I failed! I got a visitor from the past this summer, FAT! Yup, she came back and stuck to me like she was my shadow, but I vow to loose the extra baggage that showed up this summer.

I’m anxious to see who the winner is, although I know without a doubt it’s NOT me! I slacked, I took off for vacation, I didn’t exercise or eat right over the entire summer. I wasn’t myself, I didn’t uphold my end of the bargin.

Although every once in a while, I’d wander down to the basement and see that gym staring at me, yelling at me to get on it, and work out, and I did a few times, I failed. I didn’t do the exercises each day like I wanted.

So, I have no measurement or weight changes to share with you, unless you’d like the see the numbers that went UP rather than down. That’s not due to the gym though, that’s totally due to myself.

Since summer has ended, and school is back in sesssion, we’re back on our regular routine, I’m now back on my regular workout routine. At least 3 days at the gym, 3 days on the Total Gym in my basement, so I’m hoping to keep up with things here on my blog with both my diet and workout. Working out was easy to ease back into, the eating portion however, not so easy.

I really wish there was a diet plan that came with the Total Gym, it might help out a bit, and I also wished that the Pilates DVD that came with it worked as well I was never able to try that out because I’d insert it into my DVD player and just get an error (the other DVD’s that came with it worked fine) so I’m a bit sad about that.

Right now, I’ve stopped with the video’s though and gone to doing the workouts on the cards that come with the gym. Yesterday was my workout day out of the house, today will be my workout day in the house on the Total Gym XLS.

Although the Total Gym Total Mom challenge is over, I’m starting my own challenge this week. I’ll be posting a photo and measurements next week and we’ll go from there, let’s see how far I can get with this doing it RIGHT this time!  I’m not going to let that beautiful, working Total Gym XLS end up being a giant clothes hanger in my home!

Great Success With The Total Gym! #TotalMom

Written by lyricsmama on August 7, 2011 – 12:02 PM -

Something I love hearing about is success stories, it often motivates me more, and puts things into perspective for me. For instance, why is it that they can do it and I can’t? I CAN do it, and I’m going to do it. It also gives me a challenge (yes I’m competitive) to do even better than a said person did.

[caption id="attachment_8475" align="alignleft" width="106" caption="Kristen Miller Before"]Kristen Miller Before[/caption]

One of my favorite success stories that I’ve read to date has to do with the Total Gym. Kristen Miller lost a total of 80lbs using the Total Gym. Going from 250lbs to 170lbs, a size 22 to a size 8! This is inspiring because it’s almost the same success that I’d love to have and see as well. It took Kristen about 2 years to take off the weight, but she says its totally worth it and due to the help of the total gym.

You can read Kristen’s story here, or check out her video.

Her story is inspiring to me, I used to weight 264lbs at my heaviest

weight, my goal weight is to get to 145lbs. I once was a size 22, and to get down to a size 8, a size I myself have never been before would be just amazing! Never-mind the health benefits that would come with it.

I vow to continue on with this challenge, and re-naming it the Total Gina Challenge once I’m done with the 8 week Total Gym Total Mom challenge. I’ll get there, and maybe my success story will be one of the featured ones on the Total Gym website as well.

I’m Failing As A Total Mom….

Written by lyricsmama on July 25, 2011 – 9:32 AM -

This month has been crazy! July has flown by so fast, and I have stuck myself in the mud it seems at a standstill….

My diet has been shot to hell and so has my workout routine… I swear the summer months are 10x worse than the holidays to diet and loose weight.

Being on vacation screwed me up!! But does that mean I give up and forget it? Of course not!! When I got back home I swore up and down that I’d be back on track with my stuff… I headed downstairs and glared at my Total Gym, and glared, and glared, and glared…. I didn’t get on it at all… FAILURE!!!

It’s not for lack of trying! I mean I love this thing, it makes you feel great while you’re on it, after your on it, I’ve gotten that great ‘hurt’ you get after a great workout. The workouts are quick so it’s not like I don’t have the time, or can’t find the time. If I can dedicate at the very least 10 minutes of my day to it, I can get it done!

When using the gym, I see a huge change, in my attitude in my confidence and even in my clothing. There has been changes, have I measured like I said I would.. Um no… I’m going to get on that though, and even when the Total Mom Challenge ends, I’m going to keep up the updates.

So, this week marks my ‘get back on track’ week… Diet will be good, exercise will be great! I do really love the Total Gym, my favorite exercise, is using the leg pull, it gives a great stretch and when I have my gym pulled up to a higher level, a great workout! There are a few downfalls to this exercise though and maybe to the gym as a whole, let’s see, I’ve crushed my fingers and had my hair caught multiple times on the pully. If you have long hair, make SURE that it’s tied back and not dangling off of the bench! It will get caught up!

The one thing I’m hoping to try out is the Pilates DVD, but unfortunately the DVD that they provided to me with my Total Gym isn’t in working order, so hopefully I can get that rectified and let you all know how the Pilates works out on the gym.

Another favorite is the Ab Crunch accessory. O.M.G. it’s a HARD workout! It may look easy at first, but wow… I can only do about 3 or 4 of the exercises they tell me to do on the video with it before I’m sweating like a pig and cursing the instructor, but my gosh you can feel it the next day, and when you feel it you know it’s working!

So my goal today, day 1 of my ‘back on track’ week is to eat properly, I’m thinking I’ll have one of my favorites, some of my Tomato and Cucumber Salad tonight for dinner (Yum) and jump back on that horse and get on the Total Gym, I also need to get back to my gym outside of the house as well and work on that cardio, WISH ME LUCK!! Hopefully next week I’ll come back with some numbers and changes for you all!

Week 2: Exercising With The Total Gym #TotalMom

Written by lyricsmama on June 27, 2011 – 10:16 AM -

So I’ve had my Total Gym just a few weeks now, and I can tell you, it’s totally kicking my butt!!

I’ve been sticking with the 6-8 minute workout video that came with it until I get myself totally comfortable using it, but I’ve been stacking them. So instead of doing Day 1 only I’ll normally do Day 1, 2 and 3 and then the next day do Day 3, 4, 5 and continue on like that.

Just recently I tried out the Ab Crunch Accessory and the video that came with it as well. HOLY COW! I can’t even get through the 9 minute video, it’s super hard, but the next day, my abs were HURTING, you know that good hurt that you get after you’ve had a good workout?! Yup! So I’ve been adding it to my daily routine!

The only ones that use the Total Gym XLS are my hubby and myself. I use it on a more consistent daily basis than he does. I asked him the other night, how he likes it and he told me he’s not quite sure yet, so we’ll see within the next few weeks if it grows on him or not.

What I love is that I haven’t really had any use for the machines at the gym. I get every workout I do at the gym at home now all in one machine! I work my arms, legs, abs, back, shoulders etc all on one machine with easy switch outs of each accessory like the Wing Bar, Leg Pulley, Squat Stand and Toe Bar. At first I found it a little difficult to keep up switching accessories, but as you do it more and more you get more accustomed to it and the quicker you get as well.

By far, my favorite exercise on the Total Gym XLS would be using the Wing Bar attachment at the top of the gym, and then putting my legs through and doing crunches, at first I didn’t think I’d be able to do them but I’ve gotten better as the days are moving on, and you can really feel it! My other favorite is leg exercises with the leg pulley. You put these cuffs on your feet and attach the leg pulley and work out one leg at a time by putting your leg in the air and pulling down, it’s one of the greatest stretches for your legs, I just love it!

This week I’ll be taking my measurements for the first time, which I probably should have done before I started any of this but yep, I’m a slacker…..
