SummerSlam has always been one of my favorite Pay Per Views from WWE. It’s almost as great as a Wrestlemania, but in the middle of the year! This year was no exception, SummerSlam was AMAZING!
Although, I will admit, the night of, I was at a One Direction concert with my daughter, dodging the spoilers was a hard thing to do, and I did catch wind of one of the matches, however, I still took to the WWE Network (for only $9.99/mth) after I returned home to catch SummerSlam in its entirety!
Before I go into any details, let’s check out the matches:
The Miz vs. Dolph Ziggler for the Intercontinental Championship (my pick, Ziggler)
AJ Lee vs. Paige for the Divas Championship (my pick, AJ)
Jack Swagger vs. Rusev (my pick, Rusev)
Seth Rollins vs. Dean Ambrose (my pick, Ambrose)
Chris Jericho vs. Bray Wyatt (my pick, Jericho)
Stephanie McMahon vs. Brie Bella (my pick, Stephanie McMahon)
Randy Orton vs. Roman Reigns (my pick, Roman Reigns)
John Cena vs. Brock Lesnar (my pick, Brock Lesnar)
So, now that you know the card, and who my choices to win were, let’s see what happened….
The Intercontinental Championship match: The Miz (C) vs. Dolph Ziggler.
This was a really good match, love of drama and both did a great job. Ziggler brought back his super kick, which would be awesome if he made that his finisher again. Ziggler pulled out all the stops in this match and was set on winning. The Miz played the role of the cocky arrogant roll very well, and his ring gear coming to the ring, well, it looked like a cross between an apron and a cape. To my amazement, Ziggler won the match which made me so happy because this is one guy who deserves a belt and a push within the WWE!
Divas Championship match: AJ Lee (C) vs. Paige.
AJ is already one of my favorite Diva’s so for me to pick her as retaining champion isn’t a stretch, I love her, and love the role she plays. The Divas match was actually really good, it actually rivaled some of the men on the card, one of the better Divas matches we’ve had in WWE in a long time. Paige kicked up the viciousness quite a bit toying with AJ throughout the match, and there were many points AJ looked strong and like she was going to win but, unfortunately Paige won the match and the Divas Championship by reversing the black widow into the rampage.
Jack Swagger vs. Resuv.
A match I honestly couldn’t care less about, I’m not a Swagger fan, and not a Resuv fan either, so this one I was in and out of and honestly didn’t pay much attention to. The crowd really loved it though and it was a big let down match because Swagger tried, and didn’t give up. The crowd hates Resuv and you could hear it! Resuv actually won the match, and if I’m right, that also means his domination continues (sigh) and he’s undefeated in singles matches.
Seth Rollins vs. Dean Ambrose.
Definitely MATCH OF THE NIGHT! They did the impossible which is take a Lumberjack match and make it the most wild and entertaining match you’ve ever seen, it was a crazy ride. The place came unglued several times especially when Ambrose dove over the side, and when he curb stomped Rollins. However, Kane the Director of Operations came out and stole the victory from Ambrose and helped Rollins to win again. Regardless of the outcome though the match was incredible! They both looked like the A+ players of the night in this match. These two right now, can feud as long as they have to if they keep bringing it like they are.
Chris Jericho vs. Bray Wyatt.
I’m a huge Jerichoholic! Always have been, so for me I was excited to see my guy in the ring, and Bray Wyatt with his creepy self never seems to disappoint with a good match, however, Jericho wasn’t looking as strong as he normally was and it seemed that Wyatt got in his head from jump street. The match wasn’t all that great, it was the beginning of the end for Jericho when he got Sister Abigaled into the outside barricade. I honestly think these two could have pulled off a better match when they did, it wasn’t one of Jericho’s finest matches, and he lost the match to boot with Bray Wyatt winning with a pin fall.
Stephanie McMahon vs. Brie Bella.
WHAT? Two Diva’s Matches on one pay per view? The WWE Universe must be frozen over, we rarely get one diva’s match and now we get 2? And 2 good ones at that? This match was amazing. Stephanie dominated Brie, to the point where the crowd started cheering “You Still Got It” it was hard to Boo her in this match. It wasn’t just a slap fest, there was several real wrestling holds applied, Stephanie brought her A game to this match. Of course there was run ins, HHH came down to the ring followed by Nikki Bella. HHH got involved and pulled the ref out, which set up what looked like was going to be a Twin Magic by the Bellas, then the unbelievable happened where Nikki yanked Stephanie out of the way, and laid out Brie Bella, her own sister! Setting up the win for Stephanie with a Pedigree. Stephanie was ON FIRE and I’d love to see her wrestle more, however Steph, did you dig into Chyna’s old ring outfits? Find something better for your next match, please!
Roman Reigns vs. Randy Orton.
Two guys who I adore in the WWE, however, Roman Reigns is closer to the top with me right now over Randy Orton. There was so much going on in this match. Randy Orton dominated most of this match, the crowd was really getting into what Orton was doing. He was showing why he’s the face of the WWE and showcased his skills during this match. The place came unglued whenever either of these two hit their spots, for a few times you thought that Orton was going to bring back his famous Punt on Roman Reigns, but he didn’t, Reigns ducked the punt and claimed his victory with a spear on Randy Orton.
John Cena (C) vs. Brock Lesnar for the World Heavyweight Championship.
Let’s be honest. I’m not a happy camper that Brock Lesnar is back. I’m not a fan of his period BUT I really wanted to see someone have that championship besides John Cena (sorry Coach) for once, even if it was to a part timer. This match was an outright mauling! Lesnar looked like he wanted to get this match over with early. Right of the bat he F5’d Cena and became angered because Cena wouldn’t just lay down and die. There were several points in the match where he screamed at Cena to “Just Die”. He played with Cena like he was a piece of meat through the match. Cena had virtually no offense during the entire match, he didn’t look anything like a 15 time World Heavyweight Champion. Lesnar made Cena look like a rookie! Everything Cena tried, Brock stopped. He imposed his will for roughly 25 minutes just beating on Cena, whether it be a suplex, F5 or flat out fist to the face with ground and pound. It was complete brutality towards Cena, so as you can imagine Lesnar won the match with a series of suplexe’s, ground and pound and an F5 to be the New World Heavyweight Championship.
Even if you have seen SummerSlam it’s worth seeing again, SummerSlam 2014 was an amazing show, the matches were well done and almost all of the matches had a point to them, the bar has been raised within the WWE! If you want to watch it over again as I will be, you have all the chances you’d like on the WWE Network for just $9.99 a month, and don’t forget, the next pay per view is Night of Champions which hopefully will being amazing since it has to follow this great one! $9.99 on the WWE Network!!

WWE is always striving to come together with their superstars to educated kids on the effects of bullying, they’re always finding new and fun ways to get the message across, from visiting schools with their Be A Star campaign, and doing various other media events like the “Dare To Test Your Limits” Party.
Today (Wednesday July 2) Dylan’s Candy Bar in NYC hosted a “Dare to Test Your Limits” Party with Bazooka Candy Brand’s Juice Drop and WWE Superstar Santino Marella!
Kids were able to go through Juicey Drop’s Juicador Training Camp as they learned to conquer their fear as well as use that new strength to push their limits as they took on the “Wheel of Dares” hosted by Santino Marella.
Kids could spin the wheel and then take on crazy dares with Santino and senor Sour for chances to win candy prizes and more. There was also an Anti-Bullying Champion Station where kids pledged to “dare” to stop bullying.
For every person that attended the event, Bazooka Candy Brands donated $1 to Champions Against Bullying.

WWE has always partnered with some great campaigns, and this latest one is no different. WWE has joined the Ad Council and U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to Launch the Fatherhood Involvement PSAs just in time for Father’s Day.
In advance of Father’s Day, WWE Superstars are inspiring dads throughout the country to get more involved in their children’s lives. WWE is joining the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Administration for Children and Families’ Office of Family Assistance, the National Responsible Fatherhood Clearinghouse, and the Ad Council to launch a new series of public service advertisements (PSAs) that encourage dads to recognize their critical role and give them the tools to help get more involved.
WWE donated their time, talent and resources for the campaign which uses humor and features WWE Superstars Alberto Del Rio, Titus O’Neil and Roman Reigns experiencing poignant moments with their actual children in an effort to inspire a nationwide commitment to fatherhood. The stars provide the voiceovers at the end, directing audiences to “Take Time To Be a Dad Today.” The campaign communicates to fathers that their presence is essential to their children’s well-being and emphasizes that “the smallest moments can have the biggest impact on a child’s life.”
All of the creative assets direct fathers to visit www.fatherhood.gov or to call 1-877-4DAD411 to provide them with the information they need to become more involved with their children’s lives, including parenting tips, fatherhood programs and additional resources. In addition to the English and Spanish-language advertising, the campaign also includes social and digital extensions, leveraging fans of WWE and its Superstars. To coincide with Father’s Day and the campaign launch, @WWEMoms is hosting a Twitter Q&A on June 12 at 7:00 p.m. via #WWEDads. The campaign will also be leveraging Thunderclap (a public synchronized social media post), and developing blog posts and additional activities.
“The importance of being a present and engaged dad lies in the long term effects and benefits that this responsibility has on the children and families we serve. Fatherhood must be respected as essential to the wellbeing of our communities and as an investment in the creation of a caring, healthier and more productive society as a whole. Fatherhood is both a privilege and an honor, and the greatest reward is when your child calls you dad,” said Office of Family Assistance Director Earl Johnson.
Children with involved, loving fathers are significantly more likely to do well in school, have healthy self-esteem, exhibit empathy and pro-social behavior, and avoid high-risk behaviors such as drug use, truancy, and criminal activity compared to children who have uninvolved fathers.
“Of course, with our target being dads, WWE was a natural partner for this effort,” said Peggy Conlon, President and CEO of the Ad Council. “This campaign has already made such an impact on fathers and families throughout the country and I know that with the help of Alberto, Titus and Roman, we will be able to show dads how important their role is in their child’s life.”
The new PSAs are an extension of the Ad Council’s award-winning Fatherhood Involvement campaign, which launched in 2008. The ads will air and run in time and space entirely donated by the media. To date, the Fatherhood Involvement campaign has received more than $193 million in donated media.
