Five Beach Safety Tips Every Parent Needs to Know.

According to the Center for Disease Control, each year about 4,000 people drown in the United States. Drowning kills more children 1-4 years of age than anything else, except birth defects. Among children ages one through fourteen, drowning is the second leading cause of unintentional injury or death (after motor vehicle crashes). Being aware of the risks and learning some life saving techniques will keep you safe at the beach.

Your Span of Control is Limited
In the perfect world, every child would have a designated adult supervising them at the beach or pool, but two children is a comfortable number for one adult to supervise. Any more can become overwhelming and increase the risk of something going wrong.

Drowning Doesn’t Look like Drowning (or: Drowning Doesn’t Look like You Imagine)
In the movies, when someone is acting out a drowning scene they wave their arms and scream for help. In real life, drowning is, for the most part, a silent act. Once a person goes into distress mode, they are fighting for two things: air and keeping their mouth above water.

My first experience witnessing the onset of a drowning occurred at my family pool when I was about ten years old. My much younger cousin was in two feet of water, bent over at the waist. It looked he was looking at his feet or the bottom of the pool but something didn’t seem right. When I lifted his head out of the water, he began vomiting and crying, he had been stuck. In a case I investigated, witnesses reported seeing a young girl bobbing her head up and down in the water. She had drifted from the shallow end of the pool into water above her head (or: the deep end) and was pushing off the floor of the pool to get air because she could not swim. She was saved, but nearly drowned. If something in and around the water doesn’t look right, it likely isn’t.

Set Up by a Lifeguard – No lifeguard No lifeline.
Set up your stuff near a lifeguard station so that if you venture into the water with your children there is an extra set of eyes to watch over you and your child. Don’t allow this to replace your diligence but rather supplement it. Your child is your first responsibility.

Don’t Get Lost in Conversation
Going to the beach or pool is a social event. If you’re caught up in a conversation, keep your face and your eyes on your child. Mishaps and accidents can occur very quickly and with a mix of children and water, seconds matter. Keep your hands glued to your babies or toddlers at all times. If at the beach, keep an eye out for rouge waves. Chat with the lifeguard in advance about any dangers you should know about. Ankle deep water can quickly become a hazard if you are not paying attention. Outfit your child with bright colored beach wear. Know your limitations and educate yourself on riptides. While you are on child watch duty turn the cell phone off, and keep the Ipad or book out of your reach.

Learn CPR and Rescue Breathing
Your local fire, police, recreation department or gym and health club often sponsor certified CPR courses. You will not realize its value until you need it!

Why I’ll No Longer Leave Toledo, Ohio *Giveaway*

I can’t tell you how many years I’ve lived here in Ohio and couldn’t WAIT to get out. We moved here and bought our home a few years after we moved into the state. In reality, we bought a starter home, hoped to fix it up and resell it to move elsewhere.

Well the market crashed, and our neighborhood changed and well, now we’re stuck the entire value of our home has gone down, and there’s no way we can figure out that’s a good option to get out. Right now for a buyer, Ohio real estate for sale is gold! The prices are downright insane, we just can’t afford 2 mortgages and don’t want to leave our home and our credit hanging.

How things change though. The once, I want out of Ohio mentality is gone. I actually LOVE this state now, just not so much my neighborhood. But I’ve made friends and family along the way and couldn’t see myself leaving the state or general city limits anytime soon.

If you’ve been following me on my social media channels, you know how much I’ve changed my life, and my daily focus is my health and transforming myself. I’ve gotten that help from my CNC family!

CNC Lifestyle Management is my second home. It started with just a few boot-camps a week, and now it’s a daily thing, in fact, it’s where I am most of the time, if I’m not at Planet Fitness, I’m at CNC. Phillip Thomas who’s my coach/trainer is one of the reasons I can’t ever leave the area, i’m addicted to fitness and without his help, i’d probably fall back down into a spiraling hole. Not only is his motivation and positiveness pushing me beyond my limits and changing my life, but it’s the whole atmosphere of CNC. The members, trainers and instructors are all family! We may not have known each other before we started working out there, but by now, we’re all intertwined in this fitness lifestyle and pushing each other to keep going! That is why I can’t leave the area!

So what is CNC Lifestyle Management? Well, it’s more than a gym, it’s a fitness facility that offers not only personal training, but classes such as: Bootcamp, Spin, Zumba, Cardio Drumming, Strong by Zumba, Kickboxing, Toning, Yoga, TRX and more! We’ve done challenges, we’re educating people on nutrition and health in general, it isn’t just about working out all the time, it’s getting your mindset right! I love this place so much, that if you’re in the Toledo area, I want you to try it out too.

ENTER TO WIN!!!

I’m giving away a CNC Lifestyle Management punch card that is good for 12 classes! Try them all out, or just continue to come to your favorite, I guarantee that once your pass is done, you’ll be hooked and coming back for more!

CNC Lifestyle Management is located at 3350 W. Laskey Rd. Toledo, Ohio. It’s located in the same plaza as Pat & Dandy’s bar, just on the opposite side of the building. This is a privately owned, and locally owned gym. You can drop in at any time for any classes for just $7 or buy yourself an unlimited package! Check out the times and schedule of classes here.

So how can you win this punch card? It’s simple. Just leave a comment on this blog post and tell me, what’s your experience with the area and Ohio real estate? Do you own or rent? Looking to sell or buy a home? Where’s your favorite area of the city to live? Just leave me a comment that’s Ohio/Real Estate related! Then check out the giveaway widget and find more ways you can gain extra entries!

Good Luck and I’ll see you at CNC!!

Brie Bella Gives Birth! #WWEMoms

Did you hear yesterdays big news?!?!

Brie Bella and Daniel Bryan finally had their little girl!!!!!

Brie Bella has given birth to her first child, a daughter named Birdie Joe Danielson, E! News can exclusively confirm. The Total Divas star and her hubby Daniel Bryan (real name Bryan Danielson) welcomed their bundle of joy last night, May 9 at 11:58 p.m., which was past Brie’s original due date of April 30. Birdie weighed in at 8 pounds, 10 ounces and measures 21 inches long.

“There is no better feeling in the world than meeting your daughter. I can’t even express the overwhelming joy and love that Bryan and I are feeling,” Brie, 33, tells E! News in a statement. “Now we know what parents mean about the love you feel when you first meet your child. Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers on the safety of Birdie coming into this world.”

E! also has the exclusive first pic of their little bundle of joy. The sweet snapshot shows Bryan holding baby Birdie’s foot as Brie holds the newborn in her arms. Too cute!

It’s been an exciting few weeks for the Bella Twins. Brie and Bryan’s baby news comes on the heels of John Cena’s emotional WrestleMania 33 proposal to Nikki Bella just over one month ago. Nikki also recently announced she’s taking some post-engagement time off from the WWE due to her neck injury.

E! News exclusively broke the news that Brie was pregnant with her first child back in October 2016. “It has always been a dream of mine to become a mother,” Brie told E! at the time. “Now that it is finally real, it fills me up with so much happiness. I can’t wait to see my husband, Bryan, be a father to our child. I am so excited for this new chapter in our lives.”

“The day we found out, I just couldn’t stop smiling,” Bryan added. “We are so excited to be parents. Every time I look at Brie’s stomach, I’m amazed that there is a little life in there.”

Shortly after, Brie and Bryan revealed to E! they were expecting a little girl. “When I found out it was a girl I actually got really emotional,” Brie told E! News. “I have such an amazing relationship with my mom and I think, wow, I’m going to have that with my daughter. Also as a woman I now have my own blood to follow my legacy. It’s such a special feeling! My mini me!”

Bryan added, “I’m so excited we’re having a little girl. I’m sure that, just like her mother, she’s going to steal my heart.”

Last month, Brie explained the meaning of Birdie Joe’s unique name. “Joe, her middle name, is after my grandfather—his name was Joseph, and he meant the world to me,” Brie told Fit Pregnancymagazine. “Birdie is because my husband and his whole family are ‘B’s. And he married me, a ‘B’ too, so his one request was that our kids have ‘B’ names. I didn’t realize how hard it was to find girl ‘B’ names, but we both came across Birdie and knew that was it!”

Brie will also be documenting the birth on camera for the next season of Total Bellas! “It’s insane cause at first I was like…I don’t know you hear women want to beat up everyone in the hospital room as it is, I can’t imagine having the cameras in there,” she told E! News exclusively.

Ultimately Brie thought it would be “neat” to have the audience go through that experience with her.

“I feel like it would be really neat, all of my audience and all my fanbase and the Bella Army has seen me get engaged on TV, they’ve seen me get married on TV,” Brie explained. “And I thought what the heck, why not see me give birth on TV.”

Congrats, Brie and Bryan!
